FIRE BAN in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness
CAMPFIRE RESTRICTIONS - Effective 12:01 am on Friday, September 16, 2011, it is prohibited to build, maintain, or use a fire or campfire, including charcoal fires, wood-burning camp stoves, and charcoal grills anywhere on national forest lands within the Superior National Forest, including the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Use of pressurized liquid gas stoves is allowed.
I'm the Marketing Director, Catalog Director and Webmaster at Piragis Northwoods Company and the Boundary Waters Catalog here in Ely, Minnesota on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. We specialize in lightweight canoes and camping gear and have been serving our community and the worldwide community of paddlers since 1979. We know our stuff because we get out there and paddle. Any idea when the fire ban will be lifted? Will they lighten the restrictions if there's rain the next few days?
Cat, that is uncertain at this time. We haven't received much rain at all since June, and therefore it may be likely that the restrictions stay in place. They may go back to a partial ban, we'll have to wait and see, I will update you as soon as we know something different.
